Maxi Hughes ready for big lightweight clash after sneaking past Kid Galahad

Maxi Hughes’ stunning run of form continues as he got past Kid Galahad via a majority points decision in Nottingham.
The fight was tense throughout as neither fighter could exert any dominance, but at the end of 12 close rounds, Hughes was handed the verdict with scores of 117-111, 114-113, and 114-114.
Hughes entered the bout a significant underdog. However, it was apparent early on that he belonged in the ring with Galahad, a world champion at featherweight this time last year.
Galahad tried to steal the early session with his busy jab, but Hughes’ ability to stay close and unleash his left hand appeared to be the tactic that caught the judges' eyes.
Galahad lost a point for using his head in round ten, and that deduction was costly as the Sheffield man lost by the narrowest of margins.
Hughes will now push on towards a significant fight at 135lbs, but for Galahad, it could be a long road back following a second consecutive loss.
