Olivia Curry vs. Kaye Scott II Keys to Victory: Breaking down tactics of each fighter
Curry vs Scott II: Subscribe to watch - Saturday

Kaye Scott demonstrated enough pointed boxing to have her hand raised in victory against Olivia Curry back in September, though the bout was controversially ruled a majority draw.

Now, just over three months later, Scott and Curry return to the same FOX Theater venue in Detroit, Michigan to settle their rivalry and decide who is going to exit as the new unified WBA and WBC middleweight world champion. Their highly-anticipated rematch takes place Saturday night, live on DAZN.

After 10 rounds of action in their initial fight, judges scored it 98-92 for Scott, 95-95 and 95-95 for the majority draw despite the Australian Scott being the cleaner, sharper puncher.

At 41, will Scott (4-1-1, 0 KOs) be able to produce an even more convincing performance to snatch the vacant titles? Or will the American Curry (7-2-2, 2 KOs) make the adjustments required to snatch the titles herself? DAZN News analyzes the Keys to Victory for both Curry and Scott heading into this anticipated rematch.

Olivia Curry’s Keys to Victory

Tighten up guard, move head off the center line

During their first fight in September, Olivia Curry kept her guard by her chest and did not move her head off the center line much — if even at all.

The result was Curry eating a lot of flush shots to the face and head courtesy of Kaye Scott’s pointed punching.

If Curry can tighten her guard up a notch and show even a bit of head movement, she can put herself in a better position for Saturday night’s rematch.

Make hard deposits to the body early

Making conscious deposits to the body could manage to slow Scott down enough for Curry to then land something of more significant damage upstairs.

Therefore, Curry would benefit from sitting on her hooks to the midsection — something she is capable of doing well — in order to force the slightly taller Scott to lower her arms just enough for the American to capitalize.

Find range quickly, crank up the volume

Curry seemed content going forehead to forehead with Scott, even if it meant being a stationary target at times.

For this sequel, Curry would be aided in finding her own range quickly and getting going immediately as she cannot afford to find herself trailing on the scorecards due to a lack of output.

Kaye Scott’s Keys to Victory

Assert the jab, keep Curry at bay

If there was a knock to Kaye Scott’s performance in her first clash with Olivia Curry, it might be that she was all too willing to fight the American’s style of bout on the inside.

Scott has the ability to pepper Curry from the outside and keep the American at bay with the jab.

Doing this will allow her to not only score points and bank rounds but also stifle Curry’s offense.

Remain the cleaner, sharper puncher

One cannot watch the initial Curry-Scott fight and say Scott wasn’t the cleaner, sharper puncher over their 10 action-packed rounds.

Scott must remain this in their rematch and flashing the jab from the outside will help, as aforementioned.

That and simply being the ring general she is capable of being should keep Scott in position of landing the more flush, eye-catching shots.

Let hands go once again

Scott did an excellent job of force feeding Curry to a buffet of punches in their original fight.

Over many sequences, Curry was a stationary target and Scott took advantage.

The 41-year-old Australian must aim for a high volume of punches once again especially if she sees that Curry is not making use of head movement.

The jab will be a major weapon but Scott should also look to unload and wrap her hooks around Curry’s guard — or lack thereof — off the jab.

She pieces together these combinations and dictates the terms of this rematch and Scott could very well be hoisting the WBA and WBC middleweight world titles by Saturday night’s end.
