Rival Foster calls Navarrete-Nunez super-featherweight unification fight

Emanuel Navarrete and Eduardo 'Sugar' Nunez will have their super featherweight title unification fight at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and live on DAZN, on Saturday night. Fellow super featherweight titleholder O’Shaquie Foster will be watching intently as the WBC champion wants to face the Navarrete-Nunez winner to further unify the division.
Foster believes he would do well against whoever emerges victorious this weekend, but is leaning toward one fighter to have his hand raised.
“I could see Navarrete winning that fight,” Foster recently told DAZN News about the fight.
“I haven’t watched enough of Nunez, but what I get from Nunez is he’s very balanced and strong. He doesn’t look like he has a big output of punches, but it looks like he’s kind of accurate and knows where to place them.”
The former point that Foster makes about Nunez and his output of punches could be a concern as Navarrete is known for overwhelming opponents with a high punch count.
Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KOs) has defended his WBO super featherweight world title in four fights now, having battled Charly Suarez to a technical decision win, which was later changed to a no-contest, last spring. The bout was changed to a no-contest after the referee incorrectly ruled a cut over Navarrete’s left eye was caused by a headbutt, thus a ringside doctor ending the fight, when the gash was really caused by a punch.
Meanwhile, Nunez (29-1, 27 KOs) is coming off a busy 2025, having earned a unanimous decision against each Masanori Rikishi and Christopher Diaz in May and September, respectively.
While Foster believes Saturday night’s bout will be “an interesting fight,” he gives the nod to Navarrete, citing two key reasons.
“Experience and volume,” Foster said about the advantages Navarrete holds over Nunez.
Navarrete, who has fought the likes of Oscar Valdez twice, Denys Berinchyk, Robson Conceicao and Joet Gonzalez to name a few, will be looking for his 40th professional victory as opposed to Nunez targeting his 30th pro win.
