Chapman in hospital after suffering sparring injury as Warren sends message of support
Former women's world featherweight title challenger Raven Chapman is in hospital after collapsing following a sparring session in Denmark.
The incident took place on July 24 with Chapman was immediately airlifted to hospital where she was diagnosed with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema, and then underwent immediate surgery.
This procedure stopped the bleeding on her brain and stabilised the swelling before she was placed into a medically induced coma.
In a statement released by Team Chapman and Vote Boxing, she has been taken off sedatives and now awaits a "medically supervised repatriation to a hospital in the UK" to continue receiving treatment.
"Her doctors are doing everything they can to support her recovery, and we remain hopeful as she continues to fight through this incredibly difficult time," Team Chapman and Vote Boxing said.
"At this stage, this is the only update we are able to provide. If there are any significant developments, we will share further information when it is appropriate to do so.
"Thank you for your continued support. Please keep Raven and her loved ones in your thoughts during this challenging time."
Warren sends supportive message
Frank Warren, who used to promote Chapman, sent a message of support and hope to Chapman and her family as she continues to recover from the surgery.
"Raven is fully in my thoughts this morning, I’m really hoping she can pull through and get home safely," Warren said.
"Everyone at Queensberry is behind you Raven, we’re all hoping you can pull through this. For anyone who can help, there is a just giving link in the post."
Warren also shared a link to a Go Fund Me page which is raising money to help Chapman's rehabilitation and recovery.
Chapman is a history-maker in boxing with her fight against Skye Nicolson two years ago being the first women's fight to take place in Saudi Arabia.
