Outside of the actual fight, perhaps the hardest thing for all boxers is successfully making weight.
Before Saturday's DAZN PPV and Prime Video blockbuster featuring WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez, both guys had to step on the scale to make their fight official. As expected, both Romero and Lopez made weight rather easily.
Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) tipped the scales first, coming in at 147 pounds. Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) was next and came in at 146.6 pounds. Then the smiles went out the window.
Romero and Lopez went face-to-face for nearly a minute. Both guys' eyes were zeroed in on each other and nothing else. Finally, Romero posed, but he and Lopez still kept their laser-focused eyes towards each other.
This fight has gotten personal and in a hurry for Lopez, who looks to become a three-division world champion.
"Absolutely," Lopez told DAZN's Chris Mannix after the weigh-in. "I mean, it is personal. He's not going to go over there and just let me take the title from him. I think for me right now, it's just staying locked in."
Romero brought over the intensity from the staredown and is locked in for fight night by being a man of few words.
"It's time to fight," Romero said to Mannix before refusing to answer the remaining questions before walking off.
The WBA welterweight title is on the line as Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez face off this Saturday, August 22, live on DAZN.
