Shadasia Green has been no-nonsense, all-business this fight week and for good reason, as she seeks to build towards a bout with Claressa Shields.
A successful defense of her unified super middleweight titles tonight against Lani Daniels can be the key to unlocking a showdown with the 'GWOAT'.
Green will look for just that when she puts her IBF and WBO titles on the line against an ex-heavyweight and light heavyweight world champion.
The former (16-1, 11 KOs) is coming off the biggest win of her career in defeating Savannah Marshall by unanimous decision last summer.
Meanwhile, Daniels (11-4-2, 1 KO) sorely needs the victory, having been beaten by Shields in July before losing to Sarah Scheurich in December -Â both by unanimous decision.
With the ante high, DAZN News examines the Keys to Victory for both fighters entering tonight’s championship bout.
Lani Daniels moves laterally around the ring well, using every inch of space she has.
Knowing this, Shadasia Green must cut the ring in half on Daniels.
Doing this successfully will allow Green to mandate the terms of this fight, pushing the pace to better suit her pressuring style.
Once successful at cutting the ring on Daniels, Green must be nothing short of a smothering force.
That means relentless pushing toward inside action, trapping and cornering Daniels into cramped quarters where ‘The Sweet Terminator’ can tee off with heavy-handed shots.
Green throws her hooks with whiplashing action, especially her left.
The champ uncorking that looping left hook and landing it flush can make for a raucous titles defense and possibly even becoming the first fighter to ever stop the New Zealander.
Review the fight footage of Claressa Shields vs. Lani Daniels and you’ll see the latter using every inch of the ring with her lateral movement.
Getting on the bicycle and forcing Shadasia Green to constantly give chase could be a method to fatigue the champ and possibly even sap some of her punching power.
At some point, Daniels has to be prepared to exchange with an aggressive Green who is going to press forward.
To prohibit the champ from swaying judges, Daniels ought to pick spots where could she could stand up to Green’s pressure, pepper the champ and slip out of harm’s way.
Another key is for Daniels to treat a forward-fighting Green to timed, stinging counters. Daniels does not pack punching power like the champion, but can do herself a service toward the upset by consistently landing clean counters.
