Teofimo Lopez feels Keyshawn Davis ducked Devin Haney fight
Romero vs. Lopez: DAZN PPV & Prime video - Aug 22

When Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis appeared to be set to meet after Thursday's purse bid was over, the boxing world was happy that one of the sport's best pound-for-pound fighters would be taking on a rising star looking to achieve greatness.

But all that goodwill came crashing down on Friday when Davis (15-0, 10 KOs) told the WBO he wouldn't be taking the fight, as 'The Businessman' is reportedly not happy with the money initially offered by his promoter at Top Rank and what came of the $8.55 million purse bid by his promoter, which would have netted him $2.14 million.

Many have said Davis was using that as an excuse and instead felt he was ducking Haney (33-0, 15 KOs). The other promoter who placed a bid on the fight is in the camp of what the majority of those in and out of boxing feel about the situation.

“I think it was [a duck]," Teofimo Lopez told Fight Hub TV. Once it gets to purse bid, if you pull out it’s a duck move because you’re basically letting whoever wants to bid on it take the fight, so you’re basically saying yes, and then that happens, which I’ve never seen Top Rank bid that high in my entire career.”

Lopez's upstart Takeover Promotions placed the only other bid on Thursday, which was $2.35 million, with the fight to be held in Miami.

'The Takeover' returns to the ring on Saturday, Aug. 22 when he challenges Rolly Romero for the WBA welterweight title from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on DAZN PPV and Prime Video. A win would make Lopez a three-division world champion.
