Looking at the resumes of Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez, they each have marquee names on their lists of foes ahead of Saturday's DAZN PPV and Prime Video headliner.
Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) has Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, Ryan Garcia and Issac Cruz, while Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) has taken on Vasiliy Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson and Josh Taylor. On one hand, Romero came up short against Davis and Cruz; the WBA welterweight champion dropped and stopped Garcia in May 2025. And Lopez beat Lomachenko and Taylor, but lost to Stevenson in January.
At Thursday's final press conference, Lopez made it clear to Romero that he's ahead of the 147-pound champion. Romero cut Lopez off in the middle of his statement with a little jab of his own.
"This guy is not even in my league," Lopez said at the presser. "He won't ever be in my league. He never was in my league. I think that's the whole purpose of this thing is for me to show everyone that. Just because he beat Ryan Garcia....
"You ever thought about having reconstructive surgery done to your face?", Romero shot back, interrupting Lopez.
"I'm not Ryan Garcia," Lopez retorted. Romero went on to make the same statement again. But Lopez shot back and let Romero know what will happen to him on Saturday night.
"You can say all that. It's all fun and games. You got the shirt off. Showing your chest and everything. The same thing you did with 'Tank'. The same thing. I seen all these things with you. You can say all what you want to say, smile. But it ain't going to matter on Saturday night.
"You can be all flashy now, but you know what it is. You know what you're coming into."
The WBA welterweight title is on the line as Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez face off this Saturday, August 22, live on DAZN.
