The title of the promotion for the August 22 DAZN PPV fight between WBA welterweight champion Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez is 'Put Up Or Shut Up".
A PPV headliner is normally not in a must-win situation. Typically, they are looking to extend a winning streak or have lost their last fight and are looking to get back on track. Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) falls into the latter category after a DAZN PPV main event in January to Shakur Stevenson by unanimous decision.
Before the setback to Stevenson, Lopez had won six consecutive fights and had not lost since a November 2021 split decision to George Kambosos Jr. But in Lopez's mind, he feels. It's time to deliver or go home.
"I feel great," Lopez said at Thursday's press conference to formally announce the fight. “Put Up Or Shut Up”, I like that. I think we are at a point of time in my career where everything is at stake, truthfully."
A victory over Romero would make "The Takeover" a three-division world champion. Lopez knows what's on the line when he looks to accomplish something not many fighters do.
"Everything’s at stake," Lopez said. "Was Teofimo just good early in his career, and this is the end of his career? Or is this now the start of something new? I look forward to it."
