Tony Bellew proud of Jazza Dickens as he urges his fighter to take a break from boxing
Rewatch Fight Camp 2, night two on DAZN

Tony Bellew couldn’t hide his pride when talking about Jazza Dickens’ defiant effort against the outstanding Kid Galahad on Saturday night. Bellew, Dickens’ manager, had guided his charge to a world title shot following a number of impressive displays but it was a step too far for the Liverpool man as he was rescued by his team before the final round could start.

Nursing a number of facial injuries, Dickens, accompanied by Bellew, spent time in hospital following the fight, but the featherweight contender took to social media on Sunday afternoon to offer thanks to his supporters. Bellew has advised Dickens on what his next move should be.

“He’s to spend time with his family and not even think about boxing,” said Bellew when speaking to DAZN on his drive back from Fight Camp. “I’ve told him to get away with his missus and kids and to have some quality time with beautiful family of his. Boxing shouldn’t even be on his mind at this point.

“He’s put everything into this fight and it didn’t go for him but I couldn’t be prouder of him. He inspires me so much and I consider it a pleasure to be around him. The last few months were all centred on becoming world champion and it’s hurt him but he has to block that out now. I want him to relax and just be with his family.”

Despite Dickens coming up short against Galahad, his bravery and application has been applauded throughout the boxing industry. Dickens was chasing the fight from round two and despite Galahad’s excellence, the Golden Contract winner repeatedly went all out to close the gap. Bellew was quick to salute his man’s gutsy attempt.

“He didn’t stop but Galahad fought a brilliant fight and I must give him credit for that. Jazza will be back when the time is right and Saturday has only made me more determined to deliver big for him. As I’ve said though, boxing shouldn’t be on his mind now. He has to move on from this and I want him to have a good break.”
