The Buffalo Sabres are bringing back a key piece ahead of free agency.
The team announced on Monday that have re-signed checking line defenseman Beck Malenstyn to a six-year contract worth $17.5 million.
Malenstyn receives a significant raise as his average salary per year jumps to $2.9 million, up from the $1.35 million per season he was making in his first two years with the Sabres. In the 2025-26 campaign, Malenstyn set a franchise record with 282 hits, was second on the team with 75 blocked shots, and registered 14 points with a career-high seven goals.
The 28-year-old came to the Sabres in 2024 when he was traded by the Washington Capitals, where he spent four seasons after being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
