Two more teams advanced to the second round on Thursday evening, with the chance of the opening round ending on Friday night.Â
Ducks send Oilers packingÂ
There will be a new team representing the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in three years as the Anaheim Ducks jumped to a 3-1 lead after one period and never looked back to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2.Â
The Ducks will play the winner of the series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Utah Mammoth. Vegas currently leads the series 3-2 with Game Six on Friday.Â
The question now facing Edmonton is what will happen with MVP candidate Connor McDavid. Plenty of decisions are to be made for the Oilers in an earlier-than-expected elimination.
Hughes' hat trick eliminates the Stars
Quinn Hughes scored a hat trick, which was his only goals of the series, to help the Minnesota Wild defeat the Dallas Stars 5-2 and advance to the second round.Â
In the second round, Minn will face the top-seeded Colorado Avalanche.Â
