Patrick Kane, Blackhawks reunion is a move with Connor Bedard in mind

The signing marks the return of Kane, who was drafted No. 1 overall by the Blackhawks in 2007 and helped lead the team to three Stanley Cups. The 37-year-old Kane is second in Blackhawks history in points (1,225), third in goals (446) and games played (1,161), won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year (2007-08), the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP (2013), and the Hart Trophy (MVP) in the 2015-16 season. 

"Day in and day out for 16 seasons, Patrick captivated the city of Chicago with his dazzling skill, creating some of the most memorable moments in Blackhawks history as he helped bring our storied franchise back to the pinnacle of our sport," Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. "He's shown on countless occasions that he knows what it takes to win at the highest levels, and we couldn't be prouder for Patrick to once again call the United Center home and continue to shine in Chicago's brightest lights."

Someone who has captivated the franchise like Kane is current superstar Connor Bedard. And it is the 21-year-old who benefits greatly from Kane returning to the organization.  

Bedard had talked to the team and made a hard push to get Blackhawks management to bring Kane back. He, like Kane, was a No. 1 draft pick by the team. Unlike Kane, who had Jonathan Toews by his side, Bedard hasn't had an elite playmaker on his line. Despite being 37 and entering his 20th NHL season, Kane still brings a lot to the table, as he had 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) last season in 67 games with the Detroit Red Wings. 

A return to the place where he became a superstar should reignite Kane, which will affect Bedard, who signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension with the Blackhawks last week.

Bedard is going to be with Kane just about every day. He's going to see how Kane prepares on and off the ice, observe how he is on the ice, and pick his mind at his choosing.  

Kane is the best offensive player Bedard has played with. One criticism of the Blackhawks from last season is that they lacked offensive firepower to complement Bedard, as they ranked 30th in goals. Having the offensive skills that Kane possesses will help create more space for Bedard on the ice, which allows him to be more creative, and that helps the team score more goals and hopefully make a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

The Blackhawks haven't reached the postseason since 2020. Bedard didn't sign the lucrative contract to keep sitting at home in April, May, and June. Bedard wants to taste everything the Stanley Cup Playoffs have to offer, and Kane is the player to help the rising star accomplish his dreams.
