Max Holloway says trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier is 'up to UFC'
The Dustin Poirier-Conor McGregor trilogy ended without closure Saturday night when McGregor fractured his leg gruesomely in the first round.
Though 'Notorious' will need significant time to recover before talks of a fourth Poirier-McGregor fight can be drummed upon the decibel meter further, Max Holloway has let it be known that he would be down to renew his own rivalry with 'The Diamond' in the interim.
"I mean that’s up to the UFC. That’s up to the UFC," Holloway said to TMZ Sports regarding a third scrap with Poirier while exiting the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas following UFC 264.
He added: "That’d be good fun. That’d be good fun."
Holloway is 0-2 against Poirier after 'The Diamond' submitted him in the first round with a triangle armbar back in February 2012 and scored a unanimous decision victory in April 2019. The latter loss, though, had Holloway surging late enough for the UFC to come close to naming him a backup for Poirier-McGregor 3, according to "Blessed."
While Poirier's first-round TKO over McGregor due to a doctor's stoppage at UFC 264 has earned him a title shot against lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, it's possible for Poirier and Holloway to have their own trilogy in the Octagon.
Considering how strongly Holloway came on late in their rematch, a trilogy would certainly be intriguing.
