Outer Banks star Chase Stokes reveals body transformation for new NASCAR role
Outer Banks star Chase Stokes has revealed the dramatic physical transformation he has undergone ahead of his next major television role.
The 33-year-old actor, best known for playing John B in the hit Netflix series, is set to swap the beach for the racetrack after joining the cast of upcoming NASCAR drama Thunder Road.
Stokes will play Ronnie Whitlock, a rebellious former racer who finds himself working on his cousin's pit crew after being forced out of professional racing.
Speaking in a new interview with Men's Health, Stokes explained that he has deliberately added size to his frame as he looks to leave behind the lean physique associated with his Outer Banks character and accurately portray the physical demands of NASCAR.
His character will work as a rear tyre changer, a role which prompted Stokes to research the athletic backgrounds and physical demands placed on real NASCAR pit-crew members.
Stokes said many crew members have backgrounds as high-level athletes and felt arriving with the same physique he maintained for Outer Banks would not properly represent them.
His new training programme has therefore focused on heavier compound exercises including squats, deadlifts, cleans and bench presses, with Stokes comparing his approach to the training of an American football wide receiver or tight end.
The actor also highlighted the wider physical demands of NASCAR, from the speed and precision required during pit stops to drivers spending hours racing at more than 160mph.

Fans looking for NASCAR action do not have to wait for Thunder Road, with the NASCAR Euro Series heading to Autodrom Most in Czechia this weekend.
The NASCAR GP Czech Republic takes place on August 29-30 and represents the final round of the 2026 regular season before the championship moves into its double-points playoffs.
Four NASCAR Euro Series races will take place across the weekend, with both the V8GP and OPEN championships in action.
