Newcastle boss says Bruno Guimaraes 'decision was already made' prior to arrival

An official announcement of Bruno Guimaraes' move to Arsenal is still yet to come, but another key stakeholder has all but confirmed the transaction.
Matthias Jaissle, recently named Newcastle United's manager following the sudden departure of former longtime boss Eddie Howe, addressed Guimaraes' situation amid widespread reports that the Brazilian is on the verge of a £75 million transfer to the reigning Premier League champions. Jaissle stated that he spoke to Guimaraes at Newcastle's pre-season training camp but that the wheels for a move to Arsenal were already in motion prior to his hiring.
"I met him quickly, but the decision was already made," Jaissle said.
"It was a nice conversation. He's a fantastic player and a great human being. It's tough but for him now it's the next challenge and we need to deal with it at a later stage.
"We trust the players who are here already, but we will also see some changes."
Jaissle is set to guide a new-look Magpies side into the impending season without their departing captain, but also having recently transferred fellow stars Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali to Barcelona and Tottenham, respectively. The club's selling of key players, including last year's record-setting transfer of Alexander Isak to Liverpool, was reportedly a factor in Howe's departure, but former Al-Ahli boss Jaissle said he's eager for the opportunity to help Newcastle transition to a new chapter.Â
"This is a challenge and there are so many transitions at the moment," the 38-year-old said. "Many big players left - legends of the club - but we need to see it as a chance.
"Not having too many excuses now, just thinking forward about what we can influence.
"Control the controllables, I used to say, and I'm sure there will be progress this season."
