Dan Burn might be sidelined but his young son took centre stage in a heartwarming moment during Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Appointed club captain ahead of the new season, the England defender has been a conspicuous absentee from Newcastle’s first three Premier League games of the campaign because of an ankle injury.
It is unclear when he will be back on the field but he is, for now, settling for a watching brief.
And he was with his family in the St James’ Park crowd as the Magpies battled back from 2-0 down to thwart the Cherries’ hopes of a first win of the season.
With Newcastle trailing 2-1 in the 81st minute, the television cameras panned to Burn and his son Ari, who spotted himself on the big screen.
The youngster, clad in a Newcastle tracksuit, broke out into a big, broad grin, alerting his father before ringing a toy bell then giving a thumbs up to the camera.
