A key piece to the United States men's soccer success will be in the starting lineup.
Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Folarin Balogun will be in the starting XL on Monday evening in their round-of-16 matchup against Belgium.
Pochettino is riding the hot hand that won the round-of-32 game against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Initially, Balogun wasn't going to be able to play when he received a red card following a VAR review against Bosnia-Herzegovina. In a shocking turn of events, FIFA suspended the red card for Balogun, and he was instead placed on one-year probation, which made him eligible for the Belgium game.
Pochettino insisted he had nothing to do with Balogun being able to play. He was focusing on Belgium and Belgium only.
"I wasn't involved," Pochettino said. "I was focusing on trying to prepare the team to face to Belgium working in different [areas], working in trying to be focused and to play tomorrow with our best, in our best condition."
A United States victory would put them in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002 and set up a date with Spain on Friday.
