A spot in the round of 16 at the World Cup is on the line as the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina will meet in a last-32 match in Northern California on Wednesday.
The Americans are the primary hosts of this World Cup and thus do not want to exit the tournament early. They advanced to this round by topping Group D, defeating both Paraguay and Australia rather comfortably before using a largely second-string lineup in a 3-2 loss to Turkiye.

Meanwhile, the Bosnians made it through to the knockouts by finishing third in Group B. They tied one of the co-hosts, Canada, 1-1 before falling 4-1 to Switzerland in their second match. Their final group-stage result, a 3-1 victory over Qatar, was enough to see them through to the round of 32, and now they head to the Bay Area as underdogs in a win-or-go-home contest.
