The World Cup is responsible for some of the most iconic moments in footballing history, but perhaps no scene is more iconic than the events that unfolded between England and Argentina in 1986, with one legendary man at the centre of it all.
Mexico's famous Azteca Stadium was the setting for a quarter-final showdown between two nations, fresh off the tension that came off the back of the Falklands War and both looking to advance to the last four of the tournament.
It was a first half short of real chances. Argentina bossed possession, but failed to break down the Three Lions' defensive rearguard. But then enter Diego Maradona.
Five minutes into the second period, a ball was looped long into the England box, which both Peter Shilton and the Argentine contested for, and when the ball ended up in the back of the net it looked as though Maradona had beaten the England goalie with his head to open the scoring.
However, with Bobby Robson's defensive line incensed and not shy in sharing their frustration with the referee, something seemed to be aray with the goal. Replays then showed that the South American icon hadn't used his head, but his fist instead to lift the ball over Shilton and into the net. Nevertheless, the goal stood, much to England's chagrin. Then, just five minutes later, Maradona made sure the talk was really all about him, by scoring one of the greatest World Cup goals of all time.
Picking up the ball just in is own half, the forward weaved, jinked and danced around the Three Lions defence, bamboozling them with skill, before sliding the ball into the net.
2-0, and two sides to one of the greatest footballers to ever play the game.
Gary Lineker netted a late consolation for England, but it wasn't enough and Maradona had weaved his magic - as well as the dark arts - to send his side through to an eventual World Cup triumph.
