How many times has Manchester City won the League Cup? 

The League Cup has become a favourite of the modern-day Manchester City. Before 2014, the club had only won it twice, but have now racked up eight wins in their history. In fact, only Liverpool have won the competition more times than City, with 10 victories. 
 

1970 - Manchester City 2-1 West Bromwich Albion 

The first of two trophies City won that season, after they went on to lift the Cup Winners Cup as well, but first celebrated this Wembley win. 

Goals from Michael Doyle and Glyn Pardo cancelled out Jeff Astle's fifth-minute opener to see the club win their first League Cup. 

1976 - Manchester City 2-1 Newcastle United 

A second League Cup win of the decade for City, and it is best remembered for one of the greatest goals scored in a final. 

Peter Barnes gave City the lead before Alan Gowling's equaliser, but it was Dennis Tueart, whose overhead-kick was a worthy winner, 

2014 - Manchester City 3-1 Sunderland 

Manchester City's dominant reign in English football slowly continued as they won the competition for the first time in nearly 40 years. 

Fabio Borini put the Black Cats ahead, but goals from Yaya Toure, Sami Nasri and Jesus Navas saw Manuel Pellegrini's men take home the trophy. 

2016 - Liverpool 1-1 Manchester City (1-3 pens) 

Jürgen Klopp was denied his first trophy by City, as they bested the Merseysiders on penalties after a 1-1 draw. 

Fernandinho had put City in front before Phillipe Coutinho equalised in the last ten minutes, but the Reds failed to convert three of their spot kicks and the trophy went back to Manchester.

2018 - Arsenal 0-3 Manchester City 

The last time these two sides met in a League Cup Final, it resulted in a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola's men. 

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva put the game to bed and the trophy in City's hands as Guardiola celebrated his first silverware in charge of the club. 

2019 - Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City (3-4 pens) 

A win overshadowed by the incredible on-pitch argument between Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri and Kepa Arrizabalaga, who refused to be substituted as the game headed towards a penalty shootout. 

The Spanish stopper stayed for the shootout but couldn't prevent City from winning the trophy after David Luiz and Jorginho missed their spot-kicks. 

2020 - Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester City 

City made it back-to-back League Cup wins by defeating Dean Smith's Aston Villa. 

Sergio Aguero and Rodri did the damage on either side of a Mbwana Samatta goal to see Pep's men retain their trophy. 

2021 - Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur 

A game famous for Spurs sacking Jose Mourinho just days before the final, leaving interim coach Ryan Mason to lead Tottenham at Wembley against Pep Guardiola's men. 

In a cagey affair, the game was settled thanks to Aymeric Laporte's goal eight minutes from time to give Guardiola his fourth League Cup gong.

• Round 4 - Swansea City 1-3 Manchester City 
• Quarter-final - Manchester City 2-0 Brentford
