As for the Magpies, they have endured the most chaotic summer of any top-flight club, with Matthias Jaissle aiming to build on Eddie Howe's legacy.

Why Liverpool must be patient with Andoni Iraola

Iraola proved himself as one of the best tacticians in the Premier League after his stellar stint with Bournemouth, but now he must prove himself at one of the world's most famous clubs.

Expectations will be heightened, with the pressure on the Reds to qualify for the Champions League and challenge for trophies.

Liverpool have been far quieter this summer, with just Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo arriving, but that is understandable given the £400million-plus outlay this time last year.

Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have had time to settle, and if Iraola can get a tune out of them, then there is no reason why the club cannot challenge for the title.

However, the feeling is that the Reds' current squad is still a little short compared to their main rivals and more business is required before they can seriously challenge.

Barring a calamity, Iraola should be given a few seasons to cement his style and build the squad he desires, but the standards are always high at Anfield.

Matthias Jaissle must repair shredded Newcastle United side

Of all the new managers in the division, Jaissle has been dealt the roughest hand as he follows in the footsteps of an adored coach with a squad in tatters.

Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have all gone, while the club have signed a bulk of young talent from across Europe with lesser reputations.

That could all play into the German's hands, of course, and it must be remembered that the Magpies finished in 12th last season and lost both derbies to arch-rivals Sunderland.

Amar Dedic and Bazoumana Toure could yet be shrewd additions, while William Osula is expected to develop following a fine breakout season in the North East.

Jaissle does have encouraging pedigree, albeit in lesser divisions with RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli, but he boasts five major trophies across those two spells.

There is still a sprinkling of talent left over from the Howe era, including Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento and Malick Thiaw, but you would be unsurprised if Newcastle finished anywhere between the relegation zone and the European places.
