Bernardo Silva reminds Man City that 'it's a long season' after thrilling win over Arsenal

With one fewer match played, the Sky Blues now hold the title race in their hands and they could officially take over first place as early as Wednesday.

Sunday's victory was a thrilling top-of-the-table clash, with goals from each side within the opening 20 minutes before Erling Haaland outmuscled Arsenal defender Gabriel to score the winner in the 65th minute. Alongside the goals were several other chances at either end, with both teams striking the woodwork in a surprisingly open match.

In the end, Haaland's goal was the final one of the afternoon at the Etihad Stadium, which erupted at the final whistle as the team pulled that much closer to passing their only rivals for the title this season.

Bernardo Silva, who put in a Herculean shift in the Man City midfield, was among the players saluting their jubliant fans after the match, and he summed up the prevalent feeling throughout the team.

"It's very big because it puts us in a position if we win our game in hand we're on the same points," Silva told Sky Sports. "Two weeks ago this didn't look very likely, this scenario.

"I'm happy we can be on the same points [as Arsenal]."

Silva gave credit to the Gunners for a hard-fought match, acknowledging that the visitors had "two big chances in a row" in the second half that struck off the posts. In a match like Sunday's, the Man City captain said the margins for victory are extremely small.

"We were very good until we made the mistake [for Kai Havertz's goal] and it changed the mood after the 30th minute," Silva explained. "Second half was tough because it looked like we were in control of the game but always felt they were very dangerous.

"These big games are like this. Small details make the difference. But overall we played a good game. I'm really proud."

As for the remainder of the campaign, the Sky Blues have six league games left to play. While registering his pleasure with Sunday's result and Man City's recent form, Silva reminded his team that there's still a lot of football to be played.

"It's a long season," he said. "A lot of small details didn't go our way this season. Also unlucky plays, we missed a lot of chances. A lot of games we should have won.

"Today things went our way. I'm really happy."
