Will Mount play for Man Utd this weekend? Michael Carrick provides update ahead of Hull clash

The Red Devils travel to face newly promoted Hull in a match that will heavily favour the visitors, and Mount has not yet been ruled out despite picking up a foot injury that forced him to miss the club's final two pre-season games.

The 27-year-old has been injury prone since joining Man United from Chelsea ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, so the latest ailment could cause some consternation among the club's supporters.

However, Carrick doesn't seem too concerned about Mount's long-term outlook. 

"[We're] managing Mason a little bit, but he's very close, so it's touch and go for the weekend, really, if not, going into next week," the Man United manager said at the club's training centre on Thursday.

"He's picked up a little bit of a knock, it's no dramas. Maybe it's been a week or so, or 10 days or whatever it's been. So, it's nothing major. Yeah, of course, he's missed some football over recent years and he wants to be fit, he wants to be in that full rhythm and he wants to stay fit.

"So, we're doing our best to help him do that, but he's a top player, Mase. It's the same as the squad, we've got to manage the squad, there are going to be injuries through the season.

"We have got to have a squad that's strong enough to have a really good, top starting team with a depth to carry us through the season. Mason will be back very, very soon, if not immediately. So it's all good."
