Who are the biggest names to appear in the Turkish Super Lig following Mo Salah's arrival?

Jay-Jay Okocha (Fenerbahce)

A move to Turkey for one of the era's most flamboyant midfielders doesn't seem that much of a surprise, but Okocha's time at Fenerbahce actually came before his halcyon days with PSG and Bolton.

He spent two years in Turkey from 1996 to 1998, and it was here he really started to make a name for himself thanks to his tricks, flicks and ability to score banging free-kicks. 

The Nigerian even acquired Turkish citizenship whilst residing in the country, adopting the Muslim name Muhammed Yavuz.

Radamel Falcao (Galatasaray)

Following some underwhelming spells in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea, the Colombian moved to Turkey to try and find his goalscoring touch. 

And, although he struggled with injuries during his three years with Galatasaray, the striker showed glimpses of the goal machine that had ripped up La Liga in his pomp. 

He netted 20 goals in 43 games for the club before moving back to Spain with Rayo Vallecano. 

Robin van Persie (Fenerbahce)

There was still some mileage in Van Persie's tank when he left Man United for Istanbul in 2015, having bagged 58 goals in his three years at Old Trafford. 

He took his talents to Fenerbahce and actually made his debut alongside fellow debutant and former United teammate Nani. 

The pair couldn't lead the club to the title, but the Dutchman still banged in 36 goals in two and a half campaigns before moving to Feyenoord.  

Franck Ribery (Galatasaray)

Before creating a trophy-winning legacy at Bayern Munich, Ribery made a pitstop in Turkey when he signed for Galatasaray - but it was a short-lived affair. 

He did score in the club's famous 5-1 thrashing of Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Cup final, but it was a rare highlight for the Frenchman. 

After just six months in the country, his contract was cancelled after he failed to receive payment from the club and was allegedly threatened with a baseball bat by a club director.

Roberto Carlos (Fenerbahce)

Quite possibly the biggest-ever name to appear in the Turkish top flight, Roberto Carlos and his thunderous thighs spent two years with Fenerbahce. 

Following a glorious decade with Real Madrid, the Brazilian won the Turkish Cup during his time at the club, but failed to get his hands on the Super Lig title. 

The move marked the start of a whistle-stop tour at the end of his career, during which Carlos would go on to play in Russia and India before hanging up his boots.

Pepe (Besiktas) 

After a decade at the Bernabeu, a move to Turkey for everyone's favourite pantomime villain seemed like the ideal move to start winding down his career. 

Pepe spent two seasons with Besiktas, but the lure of returning to Porto was too strong for the defender, even at 35. 

He then carried on playing for another SIX seasons before finally calling it a day last year.
