Inside the world of Pep Guardiola as Man City docuseries set to air

When the Catalan's move to Manchester City from Bayern Munich was confirmed on February 1, 2026, fans knew that he brought a stellar reputation as a head coach, but he has since transformed the English game.

While it would be easy to highlight the six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League, it is not his achievements that make him so engaging but his persona.

Over the last two years, we have seen the effects that football can have on the legendary coach, with cuts plastered across his face after City blew a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League in 2024.

Now, we have the opportunity to watch behind-the-scenes footage of Guardiola in Prime Video’s A Beautiful Obsession, which airs on August 19, but what can we expect from the docuseries?

Throughout Pep's decade in charge at the Etihad, he always had his players' backs, at least to the press.

Erling Haaland bore the brunt of the blame in 2024 for his 'goal drought', but when questioned by the media, Guardiola said it was a collective problem.

However, A Beautiful Obsession reveals a dressing-room confrontation with now-departed right-back Kyle Walker.

“You don’t understand, Kyle,” an enraged Guardiola said to the England international following defeat to Liverpool in December 2024.

“You keep saying my name, every meeting in every f—g thing. Every f—g meeting, it’s my name,” Walker replied in anger.

Just a month later, Pep revealed that the defender had asked to leave the club to explore a move abroad before eventually signing for Burnley at the end of the campaign.

Guardiola's divorce takes centre stage

One of the more surprising inclusions in the docuseries is the impact of Pep's divorce from his wife Cristina Serra, which clearly affected his management.

December 2024 was clearly a taxing month for the coach, as alongside his side's poor form, revelations about his divorce came to light.

Following a 2-0 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League group stage, their seventh loss in 10 matches, Pep poured his heart out to his players.

"Guys, I want to confess something. I am f—g divorced from the most beautiful woman in your planet, my wife, my ex-wife," he explained.

"I love her? Yeah, absolutely. She loves me? Yeah, but we lost the passion."

He then linked his unexpected speech to his players' performances, asking them to play with passion if they indeed loved the game.

That is why this docuseries hits the sweet spot, as it follows the suffering of one of the most successful sides in world football, centred around ringleader Guardiola.

“I had energy that I will not have any more,” Pep admitted to his players as he called time on his City stint, but in truth, the end had been coming for years.
