Another season of Premier League football means a renewal of some of the biggest rivalries in the sport, with derby matches scattered throughout the 38-week campaign.

When are the Premier League derbies and key title matches?
North London derby (Arsenal-Tottenham)
- December 5: Tottenham vs. Arsenal
- May 1: Arsenal vs. Tottenham
This derby nearly didn't make it to the 2026-27 schedule as Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation. However, their 17th place finish last season ensures at least two more highly-charged dates between the rivals.
The derby dates back to 1887 but didn't turn into a true rivalry until Arsenal moved to North London in 1913.
Manchester derby (Man City-Man Utd)
- September 13: Manchester United vs. Manchester City
- March 20: Manchester City vs. Manchester United
An intense rivalry for over a century, this derby really kicked into overdrive when City were taken over by the Abu Dhabi Group in 2007 and started to consistently challenge for trophies.
Each side won their respective home matches comfortably last season.
Merseyside derby (Everton-Liverpool)
- November 28: Everton vs. Liverpool
- January 30: Liverpool vs. Everton
The longest-running top flight derby in England, this rivalry was driven by the clubs' proximity to one another.
Liverpool won each of last year's fixtures by a 2-1 scoreline, adding extra motivation for the Toffees to reclaim some pride this season.
Tyne-Wear derby (Newcastle-Sunderland)
- December 5: Newcastle vs. Sunderland
- May 1: Sunderland vs. Sunderland
Another long-running local derby, this one got renewed last season with Sunderland having gained promotion back into the Premier League.
The Black Cats made the most of the opportunity, winning both meetings against their rivals.
Northwest derby (Liverpool-Man Utd)
- November 21: Liverpool vs. Manchester United
- January 23: Manchester United vs. Liverpool
The two most successful clubs in England are also fierce rivals, with geographic, economic and industrial competition between the two regions fuelling the animosity.
Man United claimed the league double last season.
M23 derby (Brighton-Palace)
- October 17: Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Crystal Palace
- May 15: Crystal Palace vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
Named after the motorway between Sussex and south London and also referred to as the A23 derby, this rivalry dates back to 1920 but has taken on bigger importance in recent decades.
Other marquee matches
There are several rivalries in the Premier League that don't have official derby names. Here are a few of them.
Arsenal-Manchester United
- December 19: Arsenal vs. Manchester United
- February 27: Manchester United vs. Arsenal
A rivalry that became fierce in the 1990s and 2000s, when the clubs consistently competed with each other for top honours.
Leeds United-Manchester United
- October 17: Leeds United vs. Manchester United
- May 15: Manchester United vs. Leeds United
Sometimes known as the Roses rivalry, this one has an ugly history but has turned more civil in recent decades.
Chelsea-Tottenham
- October 24: Chelsea vs. Tottenham
- May 8: Tottenham vs. Chelsea
One of many derbies within London, there's always an extra spark when these teams clash.
Aston Villa-Coventry City
- December 12: Coventry City vs. Aston Villa
- April 24: Aston Villa vs. Coventry City
With Coventry long-awaited return to the Premier League, another rivalry will be rekindled.
This West Midlands derby is mostly one-sided given the relative statures of the two teams in recent memory, but it could spark back to life when the teams clash for the first time in a generation.
