It was an opening weekend full of big stories, big wins and plenty of talking points to ignite the flame for the 2026-27 campaign.
Among the headlines was a series of new signings who all made an immediate impact on their first league start for their new clubs.

Nobel Mendy - Hull City
The result of the weekend belonged to the Tigers as they produced one of the biggest opening day upsets when they beat Manchester United.
It was a performance that signalled Hull's return to the big time, and at the heart of the defensive display was record signing Mendy.
The Senegalese powerhouse kept United at bay on his Premier League bow, and even contributed at the other end by scoring the second goal with an impressive header.

Mamadou Sangare - Brentford
Spurs spent nearly £200m on a new midfield over the summer, but their new-look side was overshadowed by Brentford's big signing - who they signed at a fraction of the price.
The Bees paid just £39m for the Mali international, and he showed up his more expensive peers on his debut with a man of the match display in the 3-0 win over Tottenham.
Sangare bossed the midfield and showed all his attributes by setting up the first goal for Keane Lewis-Potter. Another gem unearthed in West London.

Morgan Rogers - Chelsea
There's always pressure when you become the most expensive British footballer of all time, but Rogers managed to ease that slightly with a positive display on league debut for the Blues.
As part of an exciting attack under Xabi Alonso, Rogers was flanked by Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer, and all three were on the scoresheet in the 3-2 win over Fulham.
The England star opened his account, and the Chelsea attack spearheaded by those three got fans pumped for what's to come.

Emersonn - Ipswich
Ipswich have been much cleverer in their recruitment on their return to the Premier League, and the club-record fee they paid out on their new striker instantly paid off.
The young Brazilian wasn't fazed by his Premier League debut and opened his account for the Tractor Boys inside the first half an hour of his top flight career.
He offered an industrious focal point to Gary O'Neil's attack and could be one of the finds of the summer.

Christos Tzolis - Arsenal
There has been much talk of a move for Vinicius Jr before he inked a new deal at Madrid, but on the first displays from Tzolis it looks like the Gunners won't need him!
Following two assists in the Community Shield, the Greek winger continued to be a massive threat in Arsenal's attack in a standout league debut.
He played a part in two of the three goals against Coventry and has already endeared himself to the Emirates faithful.
