Transfer deadline day: Man City agree joint British record Enzo Fernandez move
Chelsea have agreed to sell midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125million as Mykhailo Mudryk made a deadline-day move to rivals Tottenham.
With the 11pm deadline fast approaching, the Press Association understands a British record-equalling deal has been struck to take the Argentina international to the Etihad Stadium.
The size of the fee for Fernandez matches that paid by Liverpool to Newcastle for Alexander Isak a year ago and comes on a day when Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye joined City for up to £65m, signing a contract until 2031.
As for Chelsea’s eye-catching transfer business, defender Tosin Adarabioyo is set to leave Stamford Bridge for Spurs after Mudryk reunited with his former Shakhtar Donetsk coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Mudryk joined Chelsea in an £89m deal in 2023 and in July came back from a 20-month suspension after returning an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium in 2024.
The loan deal is understood to include the option to make the move permanent for £75m, while Adarabioyo is set to switch for £7m – a deal that has seen Kevin Danso join Sunderland.
The Austria international moves to the Stadium of Light on loan with an obligation for the deal to become permanent if certain performance related conditions are met.
Marc Guiu has already completed his Chelsea exit, joining RB Leipzig for £14.5m, while Dario Essugo and and Deivid Washington have joined sister club Strasbourg on loan and permanent deals respectively.
The Blues have also agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old Honest Ahanor from Atalanta next summer, but the defender will spend this season in the Premier League on loan at Crystal Palace.
