Vincent Kompany aims for FIFA Club World Cup success with Bayern Munich

Speaking ahead of the tournament, the former Burnley boss stated that now the domestic season has finished all attention turns to the summer's festivities.

"I think the closer we get to the tournament, the more you can see the excitement growing," Kompany said. 

"It’s been quite a special season anyway so far. You have the new format of the Champions League, and you have the next competition with the Club World Cup.

"You know, I think we’re part of a club here with Bayern Munich where every trophy is important, so by the time we get to America, it will be a priority." 

Bayern won back their league title ahead of Bayer Leverkusen as Kompany clinched his first championship in his first season in charge of the German giants. Having been in Munich since last summer, the Belgian has now got a sense of what makes the famous old club tick. 

Admitting: "I think that Bayern [Munich] is… it remains a very traditional club.

"Despite being global and super, super, super advanced in terms of branding and commercial [side].

"It remains a very, very traditional club. So, wherever Bayern Munich goes, it’s still the Bayern Munich that people from the 1990s can associate with, or 1980s or 1970s or 1960s and it lives everyday within this club, that tradition.

"I think that’s what makes the club pretty special as well. It’s the attachments and the clarity of the values and we’re trying to continue the next chapter of this club, of course, and you see, you feel the full power and full commitment to footballing success as well in the future."
