Although the deadline for clubs to trade with each other has passed, there is nothing stopping teams from adding to their squads from the free agent market.
Players without a club can often be a quick fix to a problem area not rectified during the summer shopping, and in 2026 there are some notable names looking for a new home.

Jadon Sancho
For so long it looked like Sancho was going to be a regular England international following his exploits at Borussia Dortmund, but he now finds himself at a real crossroads in his career.
The move to Manchester United never worked out for the 26-year-old, and despite picking up two European trophies in loan spells with Chelsea and Aston Villa, neither club felt inclined to make the move permanent.
The forward has been linked with a move back to Dortmund, and it feels like that could be the perfect reboot for a player who has offered so much yet failed to live up to most expectations.
Reiss Nelson
Nelson's departure from Arsenal this summer was a real end-of-an-era moment, with the winger the last remaining name of the Arsene Wenger dynasty.
However, having been a bit-part player for too long with the Gunners, the 26-year-old has taken the plunge to give his career a fresh start.
We've seen glimpses of Nelson's ability at the Emirates and during his loan spell with Fulham; now he needs to prove he can be a consistent first-teamer away from the glare of North London.
Raheem Sterling
It's hard to believe that Sterling is still only 31, but time seems to be running out on a career that, at his peak, saw him as one of the best players in the Premier League.

Paul Pogba
Once the Premier League's most expensive footballer, and still Manchester United's record buy, Pogba returned to football following his 18-month doping ban last year with Monaco.
However, he struggled to find fitness for the French side and only made six appearances last season before the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
It's hard to imagine the midfielder could get anywhere close to being a first-team option, but at 33, if he can find some fitness, there's always hope that the magic is still there.
Anthony Martial
Still one of the most expensive teenagers in football history, Martial is now 30 and on the lookout for a new club after leaving Monterrey.
One goal in 17 games for the Mexican's isn't particularly impressive reading, but as a short-term solution, the Frenchman could be an option.
There's no denying he has pace to burn, and when in form, he'll provide the explosiveness needed to unlock defenses.
Tanguy Ndombele
Before this summer, Ndombele was still one of Tottenham's most expensive buys, and at 29, there's still gas in the midfielder's tank.
He has spent the last two seasons in France with Nice, and gone some way to prove why Spurs broke the bank to bring him to the Premier League.
There's no doubt his energy in midfield could still be an asset to a team lacking in options across the middle.

Vardy may be having a party with his podcast, but he's not hung up his boots just yet and could add another chapter to his incredible story.
