Bruno Guimaraes has worn Arsenal red in a match, going 45 minutes in the Gunners' friendly with Serie A side Como on Wednesday, but will he be in the starting lineup in the Community Shield this weekend?
Premier League champions Arsenal face Manchester City, winners of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, in Sunday's match, which serves to kick off the English season.
Guimaraes officially joined Arsenal from Newcastle United earlier this month, but his pre-season has been truncated due to his participation in the World Cup as well as the transfer negotiations between the clubs. That puts the 28-year-old in a race to get fit as the season approaches, and the first hurdle was Wednesday's friendly appearance.
The Brazilian appeared to come out from that match unscathed, and now all eyes will be on Mikel Arteta's lineup decisions ahead of kick-off on Sunday.
Arteta isn't committing to putting Guimaraes in the starting XI against Man City, but he hasn't ruled it out either.
"We’ll have to see," the Gunners manager said of the midfielder's availability for the Community Shield. "He’s only had three training sessions, but he looked good.
"He was really pushing to play some minutes [Wednesday], get his debut and get the feeling of playing in front of our supporters immediately. He’s a player that will make us better, without a doubt."
