Mike Evans is 'cooking everybody' at 49ers camp reveals George Kittle

Asked on the Up and Adams show how Evans fits into the 49ers' offense, the star tight end paused before saying, "In any way that he wants to."

Then came the words that no secondary in the NFC West wanted to hear.

"He cooks everybody. Like, he was cooking everybody, I don't care who it is. You can't cover him one-on-one; he's going to win almost every single time."

Kittle on Evans' early impact

In Tampa, Evans recorded 1,000-plus receiving yards for 11 consecutive years, tying one of Jerry Rice's NFL records.

But at 32, and after dealing with a broken clavicle, hamstring injury, and concussion, it raised a few eyebrows when GM John Lynch stumped up $60.4 million to bring him on board in March.

Kittle isn't entertaining any cynicism.

"Him and Brock [Purdy] immediately established a rhythm, which was really fun to watch," he said.

"Everything he does is just at such a high level of professionalism. You don't always see it from a 13-year wide receiver who has put up 1,000 yards in 11 out of 12 seasons."

With 108 touchdowns in his career so far, the 6'5" receiver built a reputation for being particularly dangerous in the end zone, and what Kittle has seen in practice suggests that could continue.

"Mike had three touchdowns in one red zone period, so that was also fun to see."

Evans on Purdy and feeling "rejuvenated"

Evans has made it clear why he wanted to join San Francisco, naming head coach Kyle Shanahan, the weather, and more among his motivating factors.

He also had plenty of positive things to say at this week's camp.

"Love Brock, he's a big reason why I came here," Evans said.

"Throws a great ball, super smart, he's about his business too. Comes to work every single day. He's a quiet guy, but me and him talk about not just football, but life. Really cool guy."

"They put me in good spots," he continued. "They gave me some one-on-one coverage, which I love. I just pride myself on getting in the end zone, winning versus bad leverage, and in one-on-one opportunities, I gotta get over for Brock.

"I'm feeling really fresh, feeling rejuvenated," Evans added. "I'm in a new spot, new change, like I felt I needed."

What Evans brings to the 49ers

Evans wins at the catch point, handles press coverage well, and leads all wideouts in tight-window touchdown catches over the past decade.

Add his talents to a Purdy-McCaffrey-Kittle core and the 49ers have the makings of an offense that opposing teams won't enjoy playing against.

Whether he gets back to his best is still up in the air, but three touchdowns in one red zone session and immediate chemistry with Purdy aren't exactly helping the sceptics' argument.
