There have been a host of champions in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, with countries reigning victorious from the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
The inaugural men's tournament took place in 1950 and was originally known as the FIBA World Championship, with hosts Argentina triumphing on home soil.
Three years later, the premier women's competition was held in Chile, as the United States won its first of many titles.
Since the World Cup's inception, the men's format has expanded to 32 teams, while the women's format will return to 16 teams for the 2026 edition.
Which nations have dominated the tournament since the 50s? Here, DAZN News looks back at the most successful teams in history.
The United States and Yugoslavia are tied on five men's titles each, although the latter has since become Serbia and Montenegro, competing as two separate nations.
The USA lifted their most recent championship in 2014 by defeating Serbia 129-92, and did so in 1954, 1986, 1994, and 2010.
Yugoslavia won the World Cup as recently as 2002, having been victorious in 1970, 1978, 1990, and 1998, while Serbia has reached two finals since.
The United States and Soviet Union dominated the FIBA Women's World Cup until the latter dissolved in 1991, with Russia regarded as the principal successor.
Indeed, the USA have lifted the last four trophies and will be the team to beat when the tournament heads to Germany in 2026.
