FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers: Everything you need to know about the second round

The second round of qualifying will commence at the end of August, with teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe all competing for a place at the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.

Second-round qualifying will take place across three windows in late August, November and February next year, with each team playing two games per window.

All of the upcoming qualifiers are available to stream live or on demand via Courtside 1891 on DAZN.

The second round of qualifying will be spread across three windows, with each team playing twice in each window.

How does the second round work?

All results from the first round of qualifying carry over, meaning that every team enters window four with all the points they accumulated in the previous round.

Teams have been drawn against a mix of sides from their previous group and ones they have yet to face, but they will only play against new opponents twice.

In African qualifying, Tunisia and Senegal are group hosts, with every group match to be played between the two countries.

Teams across the Americas, Asia and Europe will play sides home and away.

How many teams qualify from each continent?

All countries that qualify from round two will progress to the 2027 Qatar World Cup, but each continent has a different number of qualification slots.

In Africa, the top two teams from two groups will progress, as well as the best third-placed side.

The top three sides from two groups will progress in the Americas qualifiers, as well as the best third-placed country.

In Asia, the top four sides from one group will advance, while Qatar (who are World Cup hosts) will march on from their group alongside the top three teams.

Europe possesses the most teams, with the top three sides across four groups advancing to the World Cup.
