Indeed, few others could perhaps lay claim to her moniker of 'The GWOAT' - the greatest woman of all time - bar a rare few.
Just weeks from now, one of those will call time on their career, as Katie Taylor hangs up her gloves in a Croke Park finale.
But does the Irish star's departure leave Shields alone at the summit? DAZN News considers if anybody else could lay claim.
Why are Shields and Taylor in such esteem?
Simply put, the pair of them helped change the game. Few female boxers have caught attention like their male counterparts.
But Shields and Taylor both have, spinning Olympic gold at London 2012 into highly successful careers that broke boundaries.
The former may have waited longer than the latter to leave her amateur days behind, sticking around for glory at Rio 2016 too.
But neither has left anybody wanting since turning professional, with each star racking up an obscene number of top results.
With just a loss between them - Taylor's reverse to Chantelle Cameron, swiftly avenged - they are certain Hall-of-Fame picks.
What does Taylor's departure mean for Shields?
Having swept her trilogy with Amanda Serrano - one of the few stars in name and glory to match her - Taylor is on the way out.
Her bout this September against Flora Pili will be enjoyed by a capacity crowd at Croke Park, the biggest outdoor venue in Ireland.

It is yet another barrier broken by the star, and one that Shields will surely have her own designs upon if she can do so too.
More pertinently however, it arguably leaves the American as effectively the face of women's boxing for the casual crossover fan.
That is something that powerbrokers will be keen to capitalise on - and could see Shields shopped for even bigger opportunities.
Who else could join Shields at the summit?
Of course, sport never stands still - and there could be a handful of contenders who would hope to reach the same level of success.
Scott, of course, has the chance to elevate her own name if she were to upset the odds and turn over Shields at middleweight here.
Should she fail, then Lauren Price is widely tipped as a super-fight option to follow for the American, with her own impressive resume.
Then there is Serrano - in the twilight of her career, but still a top draw - and Caroline Dubois, whose own footprint continues to grow.
In short, there are plenty of contenders. But truthfully, most are some way off Shields and Taylor - and soon, it will only be one left standing.
