Whyte and Povetkin met back in August, with the former coming in as a heavy favorite to retain the belt. However, Povetkin showed why anything can happen in the heavyweight division, crushing Whyte with an uppercut that saw his head bounce off the canvas for one of the most destructive knockouts in recent memory.
A rematch was scheduled to occur in November, but Povetkin contracted the coronavirus. The bout then got switched to January, but Povetkin still was suffering effects from COVID-19.
