After nearly three years away from the ring, Errol Spence Jr. returned to boxing Sunday in Australia.
Despite delivering a gutsy performance, 'The Truth' is the former unified welterweight world champion showed the effects of ring rust on unsteady legs and Tim Tszyu took advantage.
Tszyu successfully walked Spence down toward a unanimous decision at Afterpay Arena in Tszyu’s homeland of New South Wales, Australia, and live on DAZN PPV and Prime Video. After 12 rounds, judges scored the middleweight tilt in Tszyu's favor, 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111, in a performance that was enough to make Spence retire on the spot.
"I got my faculties intact," Spence offered in the ring following his second career defeat. "My money is good and working for itself, so everything's good. I got a beautiful family and I thank god that I'm gracious enough to leave this sport with my faculties intact and my family by my side."
Though Tszyu expressed that he'd like to fight for a world championship next, he was too busy reveling in his big win.
"Beating a great like Errol Spence Jr. tops any world title off for me," Tszyu said in the ring fresh off his victory.
Spence (28-2, 22 KOs) came out committing to the body effectively, but couldn't keep Tszyu (24-3, 18 KOs) from walking him down and imposing his will with the right hand.
