Dave Allen faces one of the biggest tests of his career on Saturday night when he welcomes top heavyweight contender, Filip Hrgovic , to Doncaster at his home club’s football ground, the Eco-Power Stadium.Â
The popular heavyweight has faced several huge names including Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz, and Lucas Browne, and it was against the latter that he scored one of his standout victories when he stopped the Australian fighter in the third round.Â
A former WBA champion, Browne had high level experience when facing Allen in 2019, but he was outfought from the opening bell and was second best before finally being dropped with a superb body shot. Â
Since losing to Allen, Browne has experienced mixed fortunes inside the boxing ring, and he was still fighting regularly up until the end of last year.Â
The same year after losing to Allen, Browne returned with a win in Australia but then his career was put on hold as some fighters endured plenty of inactivity during the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
Browne was stopped again by Paul Gallen in 2021 and just as it looked like his career was winding down, he landed one of the best wins of his career with a first-round stoppage against Junior Fa in 2022.Â
Unfortunately for Brown, the Fa win was a false dawn as four straight defeats including one to Jarrell Miller saw his stock plummet massively.Â
In 2025, Browne made the switch to Bareknuckle Boxing but after a promising start, he was stopped in the opening round against Gustavo Trujillo.Â
As it looks like Browne’s time in combat sport could be over, Allen could have plenty left if he somehow gets past Hrgovic this weekend.
