'Why not?' - 'Boots' urged to resume key rivalry over unification

Jaron Ennis should return to Vergil Ortiz Jr. rather than pursue a unification against Josh Kelly, claims trainer Robert Garcia.
'Boots' is widely expected to put his WBA and WBO belts on the line against the IBF champion, with a November date eyed.
The star earned those belts against Xander Zayas earlier this year, after a clash with Ortiz fell through due to legal matters.
Now however, the latter's cornerman Garcia has stressed his hopes Ennis would tackle the latter after a multi-year rivalry.

"I think if he really feels comfortable and his team feels they could beat Vergil, why not?" he told the Mr. Verzace Podcast.
"We're available, November, let's do it,. If you beat Vergil, then go after the unifications [with Kelly] and undisputed [status].
"Show the world that you're better than Vergil. He won't do it. They're going after Kelly who, but it's not the right thing to do."
Kelly is currently recovering from facial injuries sustained in his first title defence against Caoimhin Agyarko this past July.
Is 'Boots'-Ortiz still the bout to make?

So, Vergil Ortiz Jr. is finally back on the beat, with plans for a November return theoretically tracking with Jaron Ennis too.
But 'Boots' looks more inclined to move on now, with Josh Kelly and the chance for a third belt his pressing desire instead.
That will not square with his long-time rival, perhaps, but there are questions to be asked whether this is the right battle.
For some, Ennis needs a win over Ortiz to cement his reputation. But for many others, the ship could well have passed.
If that is indeed the case, then perhaps the latter's plans for a middleweight move remain well-founded as a next option.
