Taylor eyes new Croke Park chapter with farewell legacy

The Bray native brings the curtain down on her glittering career at Dublin's biggest stadium tomorrow night against Flora Pili.

One of the most decorated sports stars ever produced by the country, Taylor's legacy has long been secured in history books.

But ahead of her final bow, the star has professed her ambition for it to mean something more than just the end of the road too.

"I've been thinking about it a lot lately," she told DAZN News on a media roundtable. It's going to be a special night for Ireland.

"I hope it's a night people are going to remember for many years to come. I've got to get my emotions sorted before fight night.

"I have a fight to win. I don't know how you prepare for that moment. I'll just have to live it and deal with it as the night goes on."

An avowed disciple of multiple sports, Taylor has fond memories of the 82,300-capacity stadium as she grew into her reputation.

As such, she hopes she can add another chapter to its mythic turf when she steps onto the canvas for what will be the last time.

"The GAA finals are huge nights back home," she added. "You'd be watching those finals every year, glued to the television

"Croke Park events are very special. I can't really believe I'm actually going to headline this place. There's lots of great memories."

Taylor bids to pen one more melody

It's interesting that Katie Taylor remembers her concerts at Croke Park, given the star's style has often felt like music for the eyes.

The Irish superstar has been one of boxing's most appealing performers for several years, her fights rendered as pugilistic songs.

Now, she has the chance to write one more melody for the nation's greatest sporting theatre, one that will play on for years to come.

Flora Pili will be determined to spoil it, of course, and put her own stamp on proceedings where she is the rank outsider on the stage.

But Taylor has not built this reputation by resting on her laurels. Expect the greatest hits here - and maybe something new - to finish.
