Kid Galahad on Josh Warrington rematch: ‘I’d make sure he wouldn’t finish on his feet’

Whenever discussing Kid Galahad’s (28-1, 17 KOs) career and future opponents, it doesn’t take long until Leeds featherweight Josh Warrington (30-1-1, 7 KOs) is brought into the conversation.
Galahad and Warrington met in June 2019 at the Leeds Arena which saw Warrington come out on top via the judges’ scorecards, but this result was met with controversy and claims that it was Galahad who deserved to win the IBF world featherweight title that night.
“He knows when we boxed, he should have lost that fight,” Galahad told DAZN News when reflecting on the first Warrington fight.
“No matter what he says, no matter what I say, as a fighter you know when you’ve won or lost.”
“At the end of the day I’ve got his belt in my back pocket and the only way he’s going to get it back is by fighting me and beating me convincingly.”
Since that controversial points win for Warrington two years ago, the pair have gone in separate directions when it comes to their careers up to now.
For Warrington, a forgettable IBF title defence followed against Sofiane Takoucht towards the end of 2019 and then came the decision to vacate the IBF featherweight title last January, a belt where Galahad had once again worked himself into the mandatory challenger position.
Once a huge clash with WBA regular champion Xu Can was put on the table for last April, Warrington looked to keep active behind closed doors against Mexico’s Mauricio Lara at the start of February. The fight however didn’t go to plan, Lara gave Warrington a comprehensive beating and forced a ninth-round stoppage. The pair met in a rematch in Leeds seven months later in a fight which was shaping up to be a great contest before being brought to an abrupt end after Lara sustained a cut over his left eye in the second round following an accidental head clash.
Meanwhile, Galahad achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion when he beat Jazza Dickens for the vacant IBF world featherweight title at this year's Fight Camp.
“Since our fight, look at my record and look at his record, I’ve gone onto fight for world titles while he’s gone backwards,” Galahad said to DAZN News when discussing Warrington’s struggles in the ring.
“The fight might come again. He’s got his own issues at the minute, he’s going to be fighting Lara again, it’ll be an exciting fight, but I can’t see him beating Lara.”
When it came to discussing the chances of a rematch with Warrington in the near future, Galahad was quick to claim that his Yorkshire rival is not willing to step in the ring with him for a second time and made a bold prediction if the two were to meet again.
“He will keep as far away from me as possible because when I boxed him last time, they gave him the decision, but he knows I won.”
“For the second fight, I wouldn’t leave it to the referees and judges, I’d make sure he wouldn’t finish on his feet.”
