Ex-Tyson trainer Atlas explains why Moses is better than legendary boxer

Ever since Moses Itauma began landing punishing knockout after punishing knockout, comparisons were immediately drawn with the legendary Mike Tyson.
As Moses bulldozed through every opponent who stood before him, there was a chance he could surpass Tyson and become the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.
However, this opportunity did not materialise, but later this month, Moses can become the youngest world heavyweight titleholder since Tyson when he faces Filip Hrgovic, exclusively live on DAZN PPV and Ultimate Tier.
Just like Tyson, Moses shows no mercy to his opponents, and if the British star fulfils his potential, there is a chance he could surpass the legacy of 'Iron' Mike.
Why Moses is better than Tyson
One person who played a fundamental part in Tyson's rise was trainer Teddy Atlas.
He was an assistant to head trainer Cus D'Amato during the early stages of Tyson's career, and saw him develop into one of the biggest names in world sport.
But at 21 years of age and 14 fights into his professional boxing career, is Moses better than Tyson?
Atlas certainly thinks so, and explains why.
"Where Itauma is different from Tyson is that he is more dimensional," Atlas told CanadaCasino. "He can do more things. He can box a little bit, he can counterpunch, I have seen him set traps, he can go get you, he can go in the trenches, he can go in close, go to the body, go to the head and put punches together.
"Tyson was more of a one-direction seek-and-destroy machine, but a very good one.
"Tyson created opportunities for his speed and power by being aggressive and smart, moving his head and making you miss and pay. But you pretty much always knew what you were going to get."
There are similarities between Moses and Itauma, with Atlas citing two traits which make the former a scary challenge inside the ring.
"The greatest similarity is speed and power. Itauma is one of the first heavyweights since Tyson where I can say he shows you that combination of pure speed and pure power that Tyson showed," Atlas continued.
"No other heavyweights really showed that combination with both hands the way Tyson did. Tyson became legendary because of that combination of speed, power and ferociousness. He scared people.
"Itauma is starting to scare people a little bit too, maybe not just with the way he attacks, but with his talent."
