Is Oleksandr Usyk past his peak? World champion Daniel Dubois gives his verdict

Usyk's stoppage win over kickboxer Rico Verhoeven last month has raised concerns about whether the Ukrainian still has what it takes to be at the top of the heavyweight tree, with the Dutchman causing all sorts of problems for the pound-for-pound great.

Dubois, a former opponent of Usyk, became a two-time world champion at the start of May after beating Fabio Wardley in a Fight of the Year contender, and has his sights set on adding the three other belts to his collection. 

Dubois claims Usyk could be past his peak

Appearing on talkSPORT, Dubois was asked about Usyk's recent win against Verhoeven, and to the surprise of presenter Jim White, revealed that he didn't watch the fight live, with the matchup of the two different combat disciplines being something he does not take seriously. 

"He [Verhoeven] did well, that’s what I’m hearing," Dubois said. "I didn’t watch the fight, but I saw the highlights.

"Kickboxer and a boxer, I don’t take it too seriously, but he did well."

Then came Dubois' answer as to whether Usyk is no longer at the peak of his powers. 

"I think so, he looked like he was struggling a bit, but he got the win."

While Dubois will want revenge against Usyk after losing to him on two previous occasions, his immediate priority will be a rematch with Wardley who recently activated his rematch clause to face 'Dynamite' in what could be another thrilling heavyweight encounter.
