Benn's installation as mandatory challenger by the WBC further fanned the flames, with the latter since beating Regis Prograis.
Speculation had suggested that the pair's clash would have been announced last Friday, only for neither to eventually confirm.

But when finally rubber-stamped, it will emerge as a fascinating contest amid a division already littered with leading contenders.
Benn has the opportunity, if successful, to become Britain's latest welterweight champion after Lewis Crocker lost his title in June.
Victory could also tee up a potential domestic clash with Jack Catterall, who currently has the WBA (Regular) strap to his name.
Garcia meanwhile will be determined to back up his win over Barrios with another statement performance after a tough few years.
He originally lost in his bid to take the vacant WBA strap at Times Square last May when he was outclassed by Rolly Romero.
