Hamzah Sheeraz has business to take care of on Saturday night when he makes the first defence of his WBO super-middleweight crown against Simon Zachenhuber in Saudi Arabia.
Victory for the British fighter will see him make another big dent on the 168lbs division and potentially open the door for a clash with Canelo Alvarez in the first half of 2027.

On October 31, it’s likely that Canelo will return to the ring for the first time since losing to Terence Crawford last September after recently confirming his comeback date against Christian Mbilli on The Ariel Helwani Show .
If victorious, Canelo and Sheeraz could be on a collision course for a huge unification battle with the winner in a solid position to be seen as the world’s best super-middleweight.
Sheeraz has long chased the biggest fights in boxing and after squaring off against elite operators such as Carlos Adames and Edgar Berlanga, a showdown with Canelo would be his biggest test.
Tony Bellew, a huge admirer of Sheeraz, has been impressed with what he has seen with Sheeraz at super-middleweight, but he has warned him to be very wary regarding a fight with the Mexican icon.
“The whole world will be waiting to see what Canelo looks like in his next fight, but if he’s anywhere near his best then that’s a very dangerous fight for Sheeraz,” said Bellew when speaking exclusively to DAZN News .
“We’ll see after the Mbili fight, but if he has a lot left then he’s too experienced and too clever for Sheeraz at this point if I’m being honest.”
“If there’s stuff missing from Canelo then Sheeraz could be the fighter to exploit that as his size and range could be all wrong for a Canelo who’s not 100%. We’ll know everything once Canelo has faced Mbilli.”
