Williamson confident in world title chance as Simpson eyes reset

Eight months on from the former's upset stoppage against the latter, the pair meet again this Saturday in Leeds, live on DAZN.

Williamson has been forced to ice a potential super-middleweight bid for the summit while awaiting a rematch versus his rival.

But at Thursday's final press conference, the British and Commonwealth champion outlined his hopes to push on with success.

"When I beat Callum on Saturday night, I want my world title shot," he said. "I believe by the end of 2026, I will be world champion.

"He is with a great team, I respect them. I was with them when I was boxing for Team GB. But it's not going to be enough [for him]."

Simpson, who engaged in a prolonged face-off with his opponent, paid respect to his foe after a back-and-forth with spite and bite.

But the ex-Lonsdale Belt holder, who has now teamed with trainer Rob McCracken, believes he has made the necessary changes.

"Troy is a good fighter, he's tough," he added. "I got caught with a good shot. I made too many mistakes and I paid the price for it.

"When you're winning, it's easy to not look at the mistakes. But after a loss, you reflect and realise some changes need to be made."

You'd certainly have assumed there was no love lost between Troy Williamson and Callum Simpson over the past few months or so.

That impression will only have been reinforced by a press conference that, if not explosive, certainly prickled itself in various parts.

Williamson has made little secret of the fact that opportunities - big opportunities - have passed him by over the past half-year-plus.

But Simpson is ironclad in his conviction that he is the superior fighter - and that revenge will be his at the First Direct Bank Arena.

Only one man can walk out of Leeds triumphant on Saturday evening. Whoever does so may find their destiny forever changed too.
