Expectations have skyrocketed for Arsenal after they won their first Premier League title in over two decades last season, with many fans and pundits alike labelling the Gunners as the team to beat in the 2026-27 campaign. The North Londoners opened their new campaign on Friday at home against newly promoted Coventry City, with Arsenal expected to carry the play en route to a comfortable victory.
That's exactly what they did as Mikel Arteta's men cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium, powered by goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

"The perfect start," Arsenal captain Odegaard told the BBC after the match. "It's always good to start with a win. A win at home, three goals and a clean sheet. It was really solid."
The Gunners were hardly troubled throughout the contest, holding 65 percent of the possession and outshooting their visitors 19-4. The match was realistically already decided by the halftime break when Arsenal led by two goals, but Odegaard's 49th-minute strike put a bow on a convincing performance by the defending champions.
It's that kind of tenacity that Odegaard hopes to see during the rest of the season as the Gunners aim for back-to-back titles.
"For sure that's the mindset," he said. "We don't feel we have to defend anything. We want to do it again and that's the mindset.
"Last year is finished now, we want to do it again and we want to attack it and fight for it again."
