Scotland marked their World Cup return after 28 years with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Haiti in Foxborough.

John McGinn's 28th-minute strike from the edge of the area proved decisive as Steve Clarke's side weathered sustained pressure from a Haiti team making their first tournament appearance since 1974.

Despite Haiti's 54% possession and 15 shots to Scotland's nine, Angus Gunn's crucial saves kept the Caribbean nation at bay.

DAZN News rates each set of players and our player of the match:

Haiti v Scotland Player of the Match

John McGinn (Scotland)

John McGinn delivered the decisive moment Scotland had waited 28 years to celebrate.

His left-footed strike from the edge of the area at 28 minutes broke the deadlock after Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide could only parry an initial effort.

McGinn remained a constant threat throughout, curling another dangerous effort across goal at 73 minutes before departing to warm applause. His goal secured Scotland's first opening-match victory at a World Cup.
