The international break is over with Bayern Munich in the unfamiliar position of chasing the Bundesliga leaders.
Bayern are third with 17 points from seven matches and trail both Bayer Leverkusen (19 points) and VfB Stuttgart (18 points), yet they are one of two undefeated sides remaining in the competition (along with Borussia Dortmund).
Too many draws have hurt Bayern's title chase thus far, but the club have a good opportunity to pick up three points when they visit struggling Mainz 05 on Saturday.
Mainz have yet to win a league game this season and unsurprisingly sit in the relegation zone, just one point above cellar-dwellers Koln. A 2-2 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach prior to the international break halted a four-match losing streak, but Bayern pose a much tougher challenge.
